MHRPS PGDP 5105: MANAGING HUMAN RESOURCES IN PUBLIC SECTOR

This course will help students establish the history of Human Resource Management, define Human Resource Management, differentiate between Human Resource Management and Personnel management, explain the purpose of human resource management, identify roles of human resource practitioner, identify the current issues in human resource management. This course will bring together human resource program into the organizational framework for improved performance. The course will provide competencies and skills required to perform human resource functions with a focus on the human resource phenomenon, human resource management versus personnel management, Human Resource policies, strategic human resource management, Role of human resource/personnel department, human resource planning, recruitment and selection, health and safety at the work place, performance management, reward management, gender issues in employment, training and development, employee counselling, managing workforce diversity, balanced score card, discipline and grievance handling, personnel records, retirement and redundancy and career planning and management. Through this course, students will learn practical skills of managing people in the workplace by identifying employee needs/employer (staffing) needs and competencies that impact on human resource decision making process.
