This course involves the history and scope of microbiology, microscopy, chara cterization, classification, identification, physiology, economic importance of microorganisms. Included will be a discussion of the role of antibiotics in medicine and the potential consequences of improper antibiotic use. This course will also cover basic concepts of immunology, such as the history of immunology, innate and acquired immune response, the role of lymphocytes, the antigen-antibody response, classes and functions of immunoglobin, the role of the immune system in tissue transplantation, hypersensitivity reactions, autoimmune and immunodeficiency diseases.
