This course is
intended to introduce students to the study of linguistics – a study of
languages. It provides an introduction
to various aspects of language like phonology, morphology, syntax and others. It further provides an introduction to the
scientific study of human languages, concentrating on the similarities and
differences of the languages of the world.
In addition, students will examine and explore the properties of human
language that make it unique; and that make it uniquely powerful in studying
the human mind. They will be searching
for answers to questions like ‘what does someone know when he knows a
language?’ and ‘how does he get that knowledge?’
