The course is
designed to introduce students to health and safety, agriculture Biology and
chemistry, chemicals of life, plant nutrition, Human nutrition, and social
welfare, weather and climate change, waste disposal and management, occupation
health, safety and Environment.
The course
provides students with the introduction to communication skills, writing skills
and an introduction to HIV and AIDS, the course further goes a head to
discourse writing, presentations spread and control measures of HIV/AIDS. The
students will also be taught the oral communication skills, agricultural work
environment, impact and interventions of HIV/AIDS

The course is
designed to introduce students to agricultural extension, principles of
agricultural extension and communication, group formation, management and dynamics,
meetings, work readiness, personal effectiveness, customer care and management
functions. The course will also introduce students to project formulation and
management, Report making, presentation, gender issues and agricultural
policies
The course
introduces students to Agricultural Mechanization, tools and equipment, farm
power and supply, farm tractor and its implements, farm power supply, farm
tractor and its implements, appropriate technologies, designing of farm tools,
implements and equipment, farming in urban and peri-urban setting, mushroom
growing, safety precautions to machine and the operator and precautionary
measures during farming operations.
The course
will introduce students to farm structures, construction materials, farm
buildings, water harvesting and storage structures, animal handling structures
and crop handling structures
The course
introduces students to agribusiness,
creativity and innovations in agribusiness, business opportunity,
starting and sustaining Agribusiness, planning a business, managing a business,
, customer care and agribusiness ethics, Demand and supply, agricultural credit
and financing financial management, factors of production, product costing and
agribusiness records, risks and uncertainties in agriculture, cooperatives,
SACCOs, village savings and loan associations (VSLA)

The course
introduces students to Introduction to Kiswahili, polite language
comprehensive, general vocabulary, specific trade (professional related
vocabulary customer care and language.
The course introduces students to Processing and
value addition, marketing of farm products/services, handling and management of
animal products, value addition to animal products, fish processing,
preservation and marketing, developing new products on the farm market research
agricultural tourism.

the introduction to livestock management, management of diary and beef stock,
poultry production, piggery, fish, sheep and goat production and marketing. The
course will also introduce students to the rearing and management of pet

course is designed to cover stewardship of the land for agriculture, soil
formation and properties, Land preparation, irrigation as method of land
improvement, Drainage as a method of land improvement, water conservation and
sustainability and soil fertility.

This is a
purely practical course unit and student will engage in all the activities on
the farm and the community. This involves a combination of subjects’ knowledge,
process skills and transferable abilities. Trainees have to apply classroom
knowledge and skills proactively in a real-life context for an extended period
of time. Each trainee will be required to run a project outside the 5 classroom
time. At the end of every term, a trainee should have a visible real life
project on the ground to be authenticated by Bugema University and UBTEB.
Assessment shall be made based on both the process involved and the final
product. A team of assessors from UBTEB will be moving around to assess the
implementation, authenticity, and progression of the projects. As extension
workers to be, trainees should always be prepared to make presentations on how
one/a group began to where it is.

The course is purely a practical course and the student is expected to extract information from any of the modules of Principles of Crop Production, Rearing and Management of Livestock, Land and Soil Management and other activities on the farm.

The course
introduces students to agroforestry, tree nursery, establishment and
management, bee keeping and management, agroforestry component interactions, flower,
and ornamental production, farm waste disposal and management, sustainable
Agriculture practices, productive utilization of wetlands.
In addition to field and hands-on Agricultural
courses this course is specifically designed to provide an additional
opportunity for students to gain relevant work experience in a field
agricultural environment in different areas of interest. In this course,
Students will train for 8 weeks in an agricultural environment which could be
an educational institution, research center, government ministry, local
government agency, private commercial agricultural company, such as Kakira
Sugar works, Mehta Group of companies etc. During this period, the students
will be expected to make a significant contribution to a relevant project under
the supervision of specific industrial staff and Bugema University personnel.
Students are obliged to actively participate in all relevant Industrial
Training Programs so as to gain additional skills in different areas of option;
i.e. Agronomy and soil fertility, Animal
Production and Nutrition, Crop Science and Management, and Agribusiness. At the
end of the training, Students will prepare a final report on their placement,
and make a presentation of their work.

This is a
purely practical course unit and student will engage in all the activities on
the farm and will have accumulative credit units from semester one up to semester
two and will be assessed throughout the year and the final mark awarded at the
end of each academic year.
