The course in Counselling and Guidance specifically prepares the student for working within behavioral and health settings such as human service agencies, career and educational environments focused on training the student to be a skilled counselor who is capable of integrating counseling and psychological theory with their daily practice within a work context or voluntary capacity. The student further prepares for new and dramatic changes occurring within today’s behavioral health care and managed care marketplace, with training in brief therapies, practical models of treatment.

DFCS DPCS 1102: FUNDAMENTALS OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS

This course is an introductory communication course. It is designed to expose students to the theories, skills, and strategies needed to become effective communicators in academic and professional settings. It explains the major theories of human communication and persuasion in interpersonal, small group, and public communication contexts. The course also focuses on effective communication skills and strategies for writing reports and CV’s and for preparing and delivering effective presentations.
