Emphasis in this course is put on Structure of nucleic acids, DNA, RNA, Prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene structure, DNA replication, DNA repair, Transcription in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and relevant drugs. Gene expression in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, the genetic code. Protein synthesis in prokaryotes and eukaryotes and drugs, Recombinant DNA technology; restriction endonucleases, vectors, ligation, transformation. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and applications. Recombinant products in medicine. DNA repair and detection of mutations in DNA, HIV life cycle and relevant drugs.
