MNPO PGDP 5207: MANAGEMENT OF NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

This course is designed to equip successful students with knowledge and skills on core concepts in Non-governmental organizations management, evaluation of non-governmental organizations, importance and limitations of managing non-governmental organizations in the global dynamic global world. Students will also gain competence in broad classification of nongovernmental organizations. The course will focus on overview of NPO management, characteristics of NPOs, justification for a special management approach, roles of NPOs in development – empowerment, globalization and governance related aspects, NPO development in Uganda, resource mobilization and utilization for NPOs, mainstreaming gender issues in NPO management, sustainability of NPO work, managing collaboration, partnership and networking in NPOs. The course will also equip students with knowledge and skills in establishing learning organizations i.e. converting NPOs into learning organizations, aspects of organizational learning.
This course entails detailed discussion of the role of Non-Profit Organizations in the development of the disadvantaged communities and people. Concepts of human resource management and other related resources like funds will be discussed. The course addresses strategic management questions in the context of a non-profit making organization.
