PED PGDP 5204: POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

This course is designed to help students know how to incorporate issues of economics and public finance in management. The emphasis in this course will be the role of economics and public finance in management. At the end of the course, students will be able to; analyze theories of demand and supply, application of theories of demand and supply in management, have an understanding of elasticity of demand and supply with economic application, elasticity of demand and supply with its application in management, theory of production economics, theory of production, application of production economics in management, the theory of cost, revenue and profit function of the firm and objectives – condition of the firm‘s equilibrium position, relevance of theories of costs and revenue in management relevance of theories of costs and revenue in management of firms, economic growth and development process in Uganda, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The course will also look at issues to do with roles of agriculture in economic development and Plan For the Modernization of Agriculture (PMA), food security, Globalization and its effects on national economies, analysis of poverty problem in Uganda, analysis of Poverty Eradication Action Plan (PEAP) and its pillars in Uganda, role of governance in economic management, National Development Plan (NDP), NDP and national budget formulation, public finance and sources of public revenue in Uganda.
Canons/principles of taxation with their relevance in Uganda, taxation and tax administration in Uganda, monetary and fiscal policies and their roles in economic management.
